SOUTH FORK PICTOGRAPH HIKE

Date: Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Time: 9:00 AM
Location: Gather in the parking lot of the Kane County Office of Tourism, 78 South 100 East, Kanab. Carpool to the trailhead.

Description: BLM archeologists will lead the moderate ½ mile hike to a large cliff-side alcove that houses a spectacular color pictograph panel in the Moquith Mountain Wilderness Study Area. Afterwards, participants may choose to journey to a nearby surface site, where they will have the opportunity to learn to identify prehistoric ceramics in the field and to see a small freestanding arch. Cameras and questions are encouraged. Wear a sturdy pair of shoes or boots, a hat, and sunscreen. Bring water and a lunch. High clearance, 4×4 vehicles are needed to reach the parking area, but participants may be able to carpool. Due to restricted parking, participation will be limited to 20, so please call the BLM Kanab Field Office at (435) 644-4600 for advanced registration.
