Festival Dates Extended for COSMIC event!

Solar Eclpse

NEWS FLASH!

In order to include a truly cosmic event, the dates for the 6th Amazing Earthfest in Kanab, Utah, will be extended by one day to include Sunday, May 20, 2012.

What’s the big event?  Use the link below to learn more from NASA about the annular eclipse of the sun that will track directly over Kanab, centering on the Grand Staircase geophysical province of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.  The total solar eclipse offers rare and outstanding opportunities for outdoor events in astronomy and observation of the eclipse (with approved visual devices), landscape photography in unusual lighting conditions, backcountry hiking, performance arts, etc.

Below is a link provided by amateur astronomer, Mike Satter, former president of Grand Staircase Escalante Partners, www.gsenm.org, for info about the eclipse.

  1. Marty Feely says:

The eclipse is not total, but ANNULAR, because at the time the moon will be too far away to cover the sun completely. The sun will be 94% covered at maximum, leaving just a “ring of fire”. Still a rare and spectacular event, and worth extending the Fest for!

  2. This IS worth an extra Festival Day, the event is exceptional and Kanab enjoys about the best night sky viewing imaginable. Amazing Earthfest will do a nice job of creating a special viewing and learning event so I’m glad this is happening.
