NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM ACT 50th Anniversary Event!

National Parks, National Monuments; NATIONAL TRAILS?

Date: Thursday, May 17, 2018

Time: 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Location: Kane County Water Conservancy, 725 E Kaneplex Dr., Kanab, UT 84741

Description: Names like the Old Spanish, Lewis and Clark, Mormon Pioneer, California, Pony Express, and Oregon trails, evoke images of westward exploration, expansion and settlement of the United States along primitive travel routes piercing a wild frontier. The Trail of Tears and Nez Perce Trail commemorate the tragic experiences of Native Americans, displaced from their ancestral lands. Other designations like the Appalachian, Arizona, Continental Divide and Pacific Crest Trails beckon outdoor adventurers to seek recreational renewal and personal challenge.

Capture this opportunity to learn about the little known, but highly significant National Trails System Act NTSA, in celebration of its passage by the U.S. Congress 50 years ago. Did you know? Eleven national scenic trails and nineteen historic trails, including the Old Spanish National Historic Trail established by Congress 15 years ago, have been designated under the Act and are managed for public enjoyment and their significant historic and scenic values. The Armijo Route of the Old Spanish National Historic Trail passes through Kane and Coconino Counties in southern Utah and northern Arizona. Find out more about your national trails!
