SOUTH FORK INDIAN CANYON PICTOGRAPH HIKE

Date: Tuesday, May 15, 2018

Time: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Location: Meet at 8:00 AM at the Earthfest Information Table, Kane County Office of Tourism, 78 South 100 East, (US 89) Kanab. 4WD high-clearance vehicles are required to reach the trailhead. Carpool in caravan about 20 miles to the Indian Canyon Trailhead parking area.

Description: Join a BLM Archaeologist and Rangers to visit an exceptional Native American pictograph site in a remote canyon alcove. Learn how this site fits into the cultural landscape of southern Utah and the history of how the BLM has managed the site in response to multiple episodes of vandalism as well as future site protection plans. Once off the pavement, drivers will negotiate deep sand and narrow, winding roads. The ½ mile hike is moderate to steep. Bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, lunch/snacks, day pack, and camera!
