The 2019 Schedule of Events for the 13th annual Amazing Earthfest is nearly complete!  Our themes are the Centennial of Grand Canyon National Park (1919 to 2019), and Preserving Starry Skies over the Colorado Plateau!  Check back soon to see all the cool activities we offer!

Guided hikes, cycling and outdoor adventures, arts, science, ethics, astronomy, public land management, back-country exploration, community and sustainable living are all in the program at Amazing Earthfest. If you haven’t attended southern Utah’s Amazing Earthfest before, a memorable experience awaits you! Most events are free!

MOUNTAIN BIKING THE CHOCOLATE CLIFFS

Ride a geologic formation that is the 1st step in the Grand Staircase! A highly scenic, 10-mile non-technical out and back on packed natural surface with easy to moderate climbing, sporting expansive views of the Kaibab Plateau, Antelope Valley and the four other colorful cliffs of the Grand Staircase. Bring your own water and snacks. Extendable to 25 miles.

MANSARD PETROGLYPHS HIKE

Join a BLM Ranger and an Archeologist for a moderately difficult six mile hike to an amazing petroglyph site sporting expansive scenic vistas. Segments of the trail are steep with over 1000 feet in elevation change each way. Some scrambling is required to negotiate a seven-foot sandstone ledge. MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS: New Rides in Kanab

Join members of the Kanab Cycling Club for a brief presentation on the proper construction of sustainable mountain bike trails and check out Kanab’s new mountain bike trail system. Club members will lead bikers and hikers on two 3/4 mile trails in the foothills of the Vermilion Cliffs. Maps of additional trails in the local area will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in biking or hiking.

WHICH WAY DID HE GO? A Hike through the Paria Box

This gentle 6-mile round trip trek explores Armijo’s Old Spanish Trail route alternatives along the Paria River through a beautiful box canyon. Rocks can be slippery in spots, wading is required and the river can be muddy after recent rain. Access by dirt road is weather-dependent. HIKING LICK WASH

Take a leisurely hike in the White Cliffs of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, learning about various biological and archaeological features along the way. TRACKING AN ANCIENT PREDATOR

Join Paleontologist Katja Knoll for a moderately strenuous one mile round trip hike into the Vermilion Cliffs, including some scrambling, to arrive at a dinosaur track site. Please carpool as parking is limited. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen and appropriate gear for weather conditions, rain or shine. Elevation gain approximately 200 ft.

GUIDED EXPEDITION TO NAMPAWEAP

HIKE BUCKSKIN GULCH TO WIRE PASS

Join Grand Staircase Escalante Partners Site Steward Coordinator Jeff Frey to explore two remote canyons, passing three rock art panels along the way. CLIFFS TO SQUAW TRAIL LOOP HIKE

Join photographer and former BLM park ranger Marty Feely for a strenuous 4.5-mile loop hike offering beautiful views overlooking Kanab, the Arizona Strip and beyond, as well as the White Cliffs and the Pink Cliffs of Bryce Canyon National Park.
